Wellspring Needs Saved
Wellspring Church needs SAVED! Wellspring Church of Washington County, or the Wellspring Church located in Bridgeville, PA, (or, Cecil Township) is the only one that needs saved. Something is dreadfully wrong. Something is amiss. The wound is incurable, and there is no remedy.
What is wrong? Wellspring Church is sick; Wellspring Church is dying. And what’s worse is the church does not know it.
Wellspring is in desperate need of REFORM. She has become corrupted. The church is not all bad; but the corruption affects everything: the teaching, the fellowship, the worship, the community. What the church was promised by the new leadership has not transpired – new people have not joined the church, people who left long ago have not returned, and the previous bad reputation has actually gotten worse than ever, even after a massively time-consuming and expensive rebrand and public relations campaign. And the church has gotten smaller, dramatically smaller, though it is large enough that most people don’t know or don’t care that they see less and less people there as time passes by.
“Those who sow to the flesh, shall from the flesh reap corruption.”
Galatians 6:8
Wellspring Church expected a sudden rebrand of their long-standing church and a PR refresh would make them relevant again after years of isolation and a growing bad reputation. But things got worse!
Wellspring Church does many things that are cult-like and continues down this path. At one time, I would have said Wellspring does not resemble a cult in it’s teaching, but under the Chris Otis era I can no longer say that. His new teachings and his over-emphasis on hand-picked teachings and doctrines have become quite bizarre in recent years, and are taking larger and larger leaps away from the “simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ” and replacing it with a teaching that fidelity to Chris Otis and his eldership model are the keys to the kingdom of God. Wellspring acts like a cult in practice, which many would say is all that is needed to characterize it as a cult.
Wellspring needs REFORM; a new leadership and a new direction. But what is really needed more than anything: Wellspring is in desperate need of repentance. Oh, but the proud glare of Wellspring (or Lakeview) would never stoop to repentance and humility.
One of Wellspring’s greatest character flaws, really her fatal flaw, is her arrogance and her elitism. The people of Wellspring have spent so long telling themselves how superior they are to other Christians and other churches, that they do not see the hole in the ship, like the Titanic taking on water. It’s only a matter of time…
“Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil.”
Ecclesiastes 8:11
What is the other key problem? Wellspring Church PERSECUTES the gospel of Jesus Christ. More specifically, the elders of Wellspring and a few of their key closest followers are the one’s doing the persecuting. These elders will stop at nothing to stamp out and destroy any attempts to take out the gospel, start a church, start a Bible study, or do anything led by the Spirit of God. Any elder or pastor who showed any sign of life or spiritual promise or anointing was stamped out, and some of these former elders are in the church today and these once-promising elders are just a shell of the man they used to be.
The church allegedly attempts to preach the gospel itself, but she is more persecutor, and you cannot be both! Wellspring Church really represents an ANTI-GOSPEL: the church is counter to the gospel of the kingdom that once started the church and so many others like it.
Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water?
James 3:11
Wellspring has destroyed four other churches just in the last two years – that includes the whole church, the organization, the pastors, and the people. And when you factor in the critical role that Elder Chris Otis played in previous situations, you can add another three churches to the list, if not more.
Wellspring has not taken the gospel out or started a church in about 30 years. It has tried a few times, but it always ends in failure. Wellspring doesn’t build churches; Wellspring destroys churches, or more specifically, the elders, led by Elder Chris Otis, destroys churches. It’s what he does; its become way a life for him, almost like breathing for him.
The people going to Wellspring have had all of these events and the bad and far-reaching reputation of the church bring such discredit to everyone in the church and everything the people of the church are trying to do. But you asked for this! You wanted Chris Otis as your supreme leader, and you wanted this new worldly direction, and you got it. You supported these corrupt actions with your financial giving, and you blessed those who did these things, so everyone has a share in this. That’s why the discredit affects everyone – it affects your testimony and the gospel and how you really appear to those around you. And it is increasingly affecting how Wellspring sees itself and others in the church.
The church has a terrible reputation with the churches, the pastors, and the people of greater Pittsburgh. But really the bad reputation is all over the globe - as the church many decades ago planted churches in far off places all over the world. What was once a far-reaching good thing - the spread of the gospel - now those same churches speak about the curse that Wellspring has become. They shake their heads when they speak of Wellspring. Wellspring is a shameful and disgraceful place and name. And churches all over the world, on many continents, have heard of this corrupt, cult-like place called Wellspring Church and EVERYONE speaks about it like a cursed place.
But Wellspring is so proud, they just boast in themselves and remind each other how great they are and how superior they are. Wellspring also has a terrible reputation among all the former churches it once was in an association with. 100% of the other member churches and all the people that go to them (or went to them, since all have been destroyed) now speak of Wellspring as corrupt and cult-like. Some even call it the “Chris Otis Cult.”
You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.
Matthew 7:16
The elders of Wellspring, which they call their eldership, dominate the people by using every trick in the book and a few new ones. The elders must do ANYTHING necessary to keep up the appearance of infallibility of the eldership and of Elder Chris Otis. Nothing is too extreme; no corrupt tactic is to be ignored if it helps maintain the stranglehold of complete control. They will use coercion, manipulation, blackmail, and dishonesty (both complete lies and half-truths meant to mislead people).
And nearly half of the people of Wellspring reading this will not have any idea what I am talking about above. There is a reason for that – it is all done cleverly behind closed doors with tight-lipped elders linked to legal agreements they signed. You may not believe it now, but you will when God exposes the whole thing.
“Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.”
Matthew 10:26
And Wellspring Church continues to get smaller and smaller and weaker and weaker and more corrupted. Whatever good was once there has been overshadowed and superseded by the sin and hate and shame and humiliation of what Wellspring has become. It did not happen overnight, but over many years and with increasing ferocity, especially in the 2020’s, when Chris Otis ascended rapidly.
And that “business venture” - that “branch office” they call their Washington Campus is the work of man - conceived by a man who had no idea what he was doing. The utter failure of that Washington venture is the fruit of the lives of the elders. Did the elders think they would expand the church and God would bless it when their hands are covered with the blood of the saints? Did they think God would overlook the pools of blood of the people of Wellspring. The church offices are full of the blood of God’s people - soaked into the carpeting of that place. But sing your joyful songs and turn a blind eye to what goes on in the church conference room and in the church offices.
How long is the land to mourn. And the vegetation of the countryside to wither? For the wickedness of those who dwell in it. Jeremiah 12:4
